A wager with a Siren may have landed Rafe a place in her bed, but it cost him his wings. The sex was good, but not that good! This little escapade has left his fellow dark angel Mammon with a bargaining chip—if Rafe travels into the past and stops a human woman from bearing an immortal’s child, Mammon will give him his wings. Unfortunately, the woman Rafe believes is his target affects him more deeply than he thought possible, igniting his lust and a darker, more damning emotion within him.
“Touch of the Demon” by Christina Phillips has enough potential to fill a whole novel, yet conveys the important aspects in just a short amount of time. My favorite part was the war between the gods and humans with the dark angels having not chosen sides. It’s a departure from the norm where the humans are caught in the crossfire and allowed the author to explore a different range of themes.
At times, there was an overuse of adjectives, and I don’t necessarily like the romantic convention where the pair instantly knows they’re meant to be with each other nor the habit of authors to have a woman’s body betray her in sexual need, but both pet peeves of mine were tackled well in this instance, earning the story 4 tombstones .
